These works are typically done from life or from a combination of life and photos. The purpose in doing them is to work out issues of color and composition for later and larger works. They are usually 9" x 12" or smaller and unless they are unusually complete will not be for sale. They are small so as to capture the information quickly since some of these are done outdoors and need to completed in 2 hours or less depending on the character of the light.
At one time in my life I thought seriously about becoming an architect. Although I eventually became an engineer instead, I never lost my fascination with the beauty of buildings and cities. So when I find something in the city that interests me I don't hesitate to paint it.
<p>Most of these were done from life. Some were done from photos. The drawings were completed with Conte crayon on newsprint and the paintings are Oil on canvas.</p>
